Turn off that TV!

The TVFA is behind the TV Turnoff Week, which just started yesterday (for this year).

Instead of watching TV, read a book, talk to people, get work done, or just get out there and take pictures (and then post them to your website). *smile*

I don’t actually have a television, so I’m able to do the above and even more because I don’t sink my time into watching useless TV shows.

Read a few good reasons on why not to watch TV. Also, check out TurnOffYourTV.com.

Enjoy life; turn off the tube. (:

    who needs tv?

when I moved into my apartment last April, I lugged my TV up the stairs and set it up, even though I never watched the thing. At my previous residence I had gone about a year without watching. At one point I turned it on to realize that the cable had gone out.

After being in my apartment about a month, my wife-to-be was over and turned on the tube, to discover that the cable had not been out — the picture tube had blown. I had gone over a year without noticing that it didn’t work.

Not watching TV is a good thing. After going without for a while, when you try to watch some sitcom you’ll realize how inane the things really are.

Let’s see you go without a computer for a week….

    see subject.

  3. Garrett says:

    Totally different…

I wouldn’t be able to work without a computer. I can work just fine without a TV.

    still…

it’s the "idiot box" for the next age…

  5. Bryan Fordham says:

To some extent that’s true. But you can actually do something with a computer — talk with people, read other ideas, post your own. Plus, as Garrett pointed out, do work. Plus do things that make you think.

Some people just use em to do music and publicize their band… j/k

But I have gone a week — several, actually — without a computer or TV. The only difference in my life was reading a newspaper more than I do now, just to find out what’s going on. So your challenge falls a little flat 8)

    you are a harsh man…

the band pimping slap was a hard pill to swallow πŸ˜‰ You fight dirty Mr. Bryan πŸ™‚

    No TV

I think I’m exempt, I just got back from a 2 week wildland fire assignment. No TV out there! teeheehee!

    My 2 cents..

As with the rest of you I also rarely watch TV besides the 1 or 2 shows I love and watch weekly. But I do not feel that eliminating all television is the answer as lots of times I’ll watch the news or coverage of some news event and that can hardly be considered a waste of time unless theres something better to do. πŸ™‚
