I just recieved a follow-up call from the lady at Comcast whom my dad spoke to earlier today. She clarified a few things for me.For some background, please see my previous post.

It seems that AT&T provides the backbone for Comcast, and almost all of the south-eastern United States was under attack from someone in Europe. AT&T decided to block all traffic from all of Europe (more than just England) — including every IP address that matches 212.*.*.*! This was a week ago. There is still no ETA. AT&T can’t be contacted, even by Comcast, as every call made goes straight to voicemail. I guess they are extraordinarily busy at the moment.

The representative mentioned Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, and eluded to the fact that it effected other states as well. AT&T is franticly trying to establish “better safeguards” and wants to triple-check each before flipping the on switch for Europe.

This is a pretty big news event — certainly a larger incident than the router story in the News.com article. I still have not been able to locate a news story that obviously ties in with this event yet. If you find one, please share the link below, in a comment. Thanks.
