Photos: Snow Day!

Friday, January 24th, 2003

In celebration of yesterday’s snowfall, I hiked around outside in the powdery stuff to snap a few photographs. It was, of course, lots of fun to romp through the snow with my camera. It was a bit tricky to capture the brilliance of the snow, but to not overexpose everything. I had to guess at a lot of the exposures as the in-camera meter was telling me things that were anywhere from 1 to 3 stops off thanks to the reflectance of the snow. If I would have trusted my camera’s metering in this case, the snow would have been muddy and everything else would have been dark. Good thing I knew to compensate for the snow. (:

Go ahead and check out the snow pictures.

(Not at) the LinuxWorld Expo!

Thursday, January 23rd, 2003

Okay, so I’m actually not at the LinuxWorld Expo up in New York City this year, but a few of my friends are. One of them, in particular (Steve Ruff, aka "Skatters") messaged me from the show floor to let me know that he noticed that there are no less than sixteen wireless networks where he is sitting. I mentioned that he would probably pick up even more if he wandered around the area a bit.

Currently, as I post this, he is hanging out at Ximian‘s booth, waiting for Miguel to speak about Mono.

I’m sure everyone up there is having a ton of fun, doing the whole expo thing. As for me, I’m working from home, with a sore neck and back (thanks to the accident) — but at least I have a few inches of snow on the ground! Snow! Woo-hoo!

Well, I wish I could have been up there at the expo. I’m glad that everyone up there is having a great time though (at least I’m assuming they all are…).

(If anyone is reading this from the show floor or would just simply like to talk about the expo, feel free to post a comment. *Grin*)

Update: Steve Ruff reported *live!* from New York and shared his impressions of the show this year. Included in his post are the most popular things on the show floor and news that he is planning on posting the pictures he took of the activities as they unfolded in the Javits Center. It’s snowing

Thursday, January 23rd, 2003

In celebration of the snowfall (we’ve already gotten a few inches here), I have changed my page’s theme slightly. (:

The snow keeps coming down. WRAL is saying that it should keep coming down until possibly noon, which is a few hours away. Fun! (:

More ice, snow

Tuesday, January 21st, 2003 has a good bit of ice and snow in the forecast for tonight and Thursday.

Fun! (:

I need to stock up on groceries.

New Gnome Summary: Jan 4 – 18th

Tuesday, January 21st, 2003

There’s a new Gnome summary up on, and it features a lot of things that have been brewing in the Linux desktop space over the past several months. It features updates on some of the new stuff I’ve been working on (which has been updated again since), the cool metatheme switcher that Jonathan has been working on, and also the great CD-burner for Nautilus brought to you by Alex and Bastien (aka: Hadess).

Check out all of the other items on the page too, including the Gnome-on-a-PDA stuff, the Gnome 2 (and thus GTK+2) port of Evolution, the Java Swing / GTK+ integration, and the blurb about Eclipse being able to run on a 100% free software platform (GCJ is good enough for it now!).

Photo feet feat

Tuesday, January 21st, 2003

I found an interesting website where a person documents where he travels by taking pictures of his feet.

It’s a great idea and interesting to see the same angle and subjects (two feet) in different surroundings.

Snow tonight!

Thursday, January 16th, 2003

According to various weather authorities, it is going to snow tonight through the morning. We should have a couple inches of snow here in Raleigh. Fun!

If it does snow, I’ll probably wind up taking pictures tomorrow. *grin*
