Underwater camera
I still have my Olympus C-3030Z digital camera. It’s a point and shoot which is now dwarfed (many times over) by my Canon D60 and all its accessories.
Anyway, I recently found a cheap solution for taking it underwater. This would be great for my upcoming trip. Maybe I can go diving and take pictures of fish (provided the water is clear enough).
Another option is the Ewa-Marine U-AXP (more info) for my D60. It looks like it would be able to work with my flash and a number of my lenses (probably not my Canon 70-200, but oh well). It is a bit more costly, but then I would have much more flexibility underwater. Any other solution for the Olympus C-3030Z (other than the one mentioned above) would cost about the same as this solution for the D60.
I don’t have my Olympus insured, but I did take out a policy on my Canon (and its lenses). So that should factor into things as well. I can spend anywhere from $45 on up (even into the thousands if I was either insane or planned to do it a lot) on some sort of solution for taking a camera underwater — and then there’s always the disposable camera route (which would have mediocre results in comparison, I’m sure).
Underwater
Your already paying for insurance, why not go with the system for your better camera? Canon makes a housing for the my A40 which I’ve been thinking about getting. An excuse to take more pictures AND go diving? Sounds good to me. btw, whats your diving cert? I’ve got PADI advanced. I think I’m gonna do rescue diver next summer. (Unless I get a dry suit and do it this winter, Tahoe is friggin cold).
Well…
I’m not sure how much I would use the underwater housing. I may go snorkeling, but I don’t think I will go SCUBA diving (I have never gone before). I will have to consider what I’m doing for this upcoming vacation.
Spending a couple hundred bucks on something that I might not really use much might not be a great idea. Basically, that’s why I’m thinking that the cheap solution for my Olympus P&S might be better within this context.
Oh — I totally agree; Tahoe is very cold in the winter. (:
Ah…
I misinterpreted your post, I assumed you meant scuba diving. In that case, I would agree, go with the cheaper one.
