Comment spam

I had way too much comment spam, so I added a bunch of comment plugins to defeat the spam. They all seemed to work for a while, although I thought there may have been a drop in comments, but just shrugged it off to an overactive imagination.

Unfortunately, one of them (as I discovered yesterday), was causing some posts to be rejected (and the poster’s browser to be redirected). It was called “ThreeStrikesSpam”, and it was sending people to FBI.gov for whatever reason.

Anyway, I have uninstalled the plugin. I have a few others still installed to (hopefully) weed out the spammers. I apologize for some of you missing out on commenting. If a comment doesn’t go through, please let me know and I’ll try to get it to work for you.

Test, Test…1.2.3. I have been getting all kinds of Comment Spam on my blog. I turn on moderation, and have it email me when there are comments. It is dirty, and annoying.

  2. looking at the source, the default redirect site is fbi.gov. So apparently I was tripping over 3.

From the tests it does, looks like something said my IP should be banned. heh

Yeah, I would get a few hundred a day. It was totally annoying, thus why I opted for some plugins. The ones I have now (Kitten’s Spam Words and Spammer Tar Pit) seem to work great, and work great together.

Let me guess you get like: Texas Holdem Poker and stuff like that.

  5. Bingo! That’s exactly it. The deluge of Texas Holdem Poker was absolutely horrible.

  6. I’m not sure why… I had only two IPs listed, and I know for a fact each was from a Texas Holdem Poker comment spam.

I think you should take a look at this. Maybe this should help as well?

  8. I too had lots of problems with Texas Hold’em Poker comment spam. But after I installed Spam Stopgap(http://wordpress.org/support/10/16642) have not had any SPAM from comming through.
