Nice new car that does 330 miles per gallon

There’s a report of a new car that does a whopping 330 miles per gallon, allowing one to (supposedly) traval from one coast of the United States to the other on a single tank of gas.

The best quote of the article:

“Rather than designing to a styling aesthetic, like the big auto makers do, we hew to an efficiency and safety aesthetic. When you do that, math and physics mostly dictate the shape of the car, and in this case, math and physics look awesome.”

It does indeed look nice. With such a different shape, I’m wondering how it would take impacts (especially side and rear ones)…

  1. Interesting! I wonder if the innertial mass of the total vehicle+passengers is so light that any impact would be more likely to result in accelerating the car in the direction of the impact rather than the body absorbing the impact energy….

I have much better… a car that does 0 gallon per mile. based on a compressed air engine.

That’s great new, though i think it’ll never reach the market, because of the great profits Shell and the like make today…

Jason: That will result in double the G force on your body: first the speed drops to 0, then the car accellerates in reverse direction…
