Sedona vacation

120º Fahrenheit. Wildfires all over the place. Everything was closed down due to the huge fires, including all of Sedona and its surroundings and the north rim of the Grand Canyon.

That was my trip to Arizona. I just happened to pick a lucky week to visit.

Helicopter vs Fire

More pictures will be coming soon — the Grand Canyon, Antelope Canyon, and the Petrified Forest were all neat to see. Sure, it was dry (8% relative humidity), but it still was hot.

Those are some great shots! When I was working as a wildland firefighter in 2002, I was assigned to do crash-rescue for the helibase where that very helicopter (Sikorsky S-64) called home for 2 weeks. If you got a closer picture of it, you’ll see 780 on the side of the water tank. 🙂

Hey I lived in Sedona, and never during the Brins fire was “all of Sedona” shut down. Nor does it ever get hotter than about 105 degrees F in Sedona. Your description was pretty exaggerated.

All of the natural places where someone visits in Sedona were shut down. Sure the shops were open, but I didn’t go to Sedona to go shopping.

Also, it did get that hot in Arizona while I was there (I saw the temperature in the car, as it had a built-in thermometer for the outside), just not in Sedona. That was when we went elsewhere, due to all of Seonda’s outside areas (where people go to hike and such) being closed due to the fire.
