“Uncle Garrett”

I’m an uncle now! (:

(My sister just had her baby.)

A few things I miss…

Sunday, February 3rd, 2008

I’ve been in Germany for two weeks now, and I miss a few things already…

morning flight

First of all, my family and friends back home (of course!). It was great to spend quite a bit of time with my family, and I was able to visit a few friends before the big move. (Hopefully they’ll come to visit in the months ahead…)

Outside of that, I wasn’t able to bring my books, and I’m missing the Wii a little bit too (I’ll need an NTSC-compatible TV)… and… a power adapter for my 750 GB IOmega hard drive… the one that all of my photos are on! (What a thing to forget! Oops!)

Now you know why my flickr page has not been updated recently… (Well, that, and I ought to go out and shoot a few pics.)

So, I apologize for not posting any of my pictures on flickr recently… (:

With that, I’ll end this post with a few of my favorite recently uploaded photos.

affectionate tulips

Unpausing my ‘blog

Friday, March 17th, 2006

So many things happened since my last post…

On a side note, it’s kind of hard to start blogging again when you haven’t done so in a while.

Attention! I have a new phone number

Monday, February 13th, 2006

Until approximately an hour ago, I had the same phone number for several years (approximately 3/4 of a decade). Now, I have a new phone number. If you want to know it, do the following:

Type the following into your browser’s location bar: My first name and last name (without spaces), “.com”, then a forward slash “/”. After that, type my old phone number (without parenthesis) and press enter. You should then see my new cell phone number!

With the new number, please update all of your contact info on your cell phone, address book software, and sticky notes. Thanks!

Why the switch? Simple, really… my Motorola v300 was horrible! I was unable to hear (except in speakerphone — and then only sometimes), the UI was bad, it would crash quite often, and neither of our phones would recieve any signal at our house.

We just started using nice (non-flip) Nokias (with Verizon instead of T-Mobile) and we’re loving it.

Fixing family computers

Wednesday, December 29th, 2004

Gina Trapani wrote about fixing her mom’s computer. In my case, it applies to my brothers’ computers, as my mom actually runs Linux.

A few days correcting Windows XP’s mistakes — like first not allowing downloads from any application, then secondly accidently eating the partition it resides upon (which had crucial information with no backups) — is painful. My other brother’s computer would log out as soon as logging in was attempted.

They’ve both been running Firefox and using OpenOffice.org for some time now, and each are interested in switching to Linux (which would’ve happened if it wasn’t for the fact that the WinXP problems ate up too much time, leaving none left for Linux with Linksys WUSB11 v2.6 wireless adapter support).

Big news

I have other pretty big news — I recently joined the Ximian team at Novell. I will also be moving up to Cambridge in a few weeks.

Mars photo log

Tuesday, January 6th, 2004

In case you haven’t heard: Spirit made it to Mars. As a result, NASA’s photo log of Mars images should have some interesting images as a result of this mission.
