Summer thunderstorm in Cambridge

Friday, August 20th, 2004

A bit of humidity and lots of rain, thunder, and impressive lightning is happening around Cambridge currently. It reminds me some of Georgia in the summertime.

G8 Summit

Wednesday, June 9th, 2004

I’m temporarily living back down in Savannah for a short while. By chance, I moved back in time for the G8 Summit, which is currently the big thing going on here in the area.

Various news sites have aggregate stories (articles with links to others on the topic), including WSAV and WTOC.Also, there are a lot of news stories about the streets being heavily patrolled with law enforcement of various types.

I personally have seen several police and military vehicles of all sorts while driving around recently. Just yesterday, there was a huge caravan of around fifteen cars, all with lights flashing, traveling in the same direction I was (at least for a while). Thankfully, I was going in the right direction, as all the other roads in every other direction were all blocked off (with lots of traffic backed up behind the barricades), and I must have seen around twenty to thirty police cars stopping the flow of traffic.

It’s interesting to note that there is even an official blog for the Savannah G8 Summit, complete with its own RSS feed.

Back home, safely

Saturday, June 7th, 2003

I made it home from Georgia. This time, I did it all safe and sound, without someone slamming into the back of my car (like that time nearly 1/2 a year ago).

My sister’s graduation went well and it was great to see relatives and friends while I was down in the Savannah area over the past week.

I have lots of varying pictures to upload (and post), so stay tuned!

“Bruce Almighty” phone number coincidences

Friday, May 30th, 2003

In the movie "Bruce Almighty", Jim Carrey’s character supposedly has a phone number which, when called, reaches God. A lot of people remembered the number and decided to call it. The number is not a 555-**** number; it actually works in around 30 places within the United States. According to the article linked above, in North Carolina it is a direct number to a church whose minister is actually named "Bruce". Also, in Georgia, it is a reverand’s home phone number.

Pretty funny. (:

From Savannah, GA to Winona, MN — by foot!

Tuesday, April 8th, 2003

There’s a guy named Wesley who is walking from Savannah, Georgia all the way to Winona, Minnesota. That’s a long way, even by car. Track the journey on his website, complete with a snail-mail updated journal.

Waiting for Gustav

Monday, September 9th, 2002

According to the people at the weather center, a large subtropical storm is headed directly towards North Carolina today. There should be landfall sometime between today and tomorrow, and we will probably see some of the effects up here, in form of rain. CNN has the scoop, with a nice picture.

I think this is actually going to affect South Carolina and Georgia as well, at least, by the looks of things on

Can you hear me now?

Wednesday, September 4th, 2002

I just recieved a follow-up call from the lady at Comcast whom my dad spoke to earlier today. She clarified a few things for me.For some background, please see my previous post.

It seems that AT&T provides the backbone for Comcast, and almost all of the south-eastern United States was under attack from someone in Europe. AT&T decided to block all traffic from all of Europe (more than just England) — including every IP address that matches 212.*.*.*! This was a week ago. There is still no ETA. AT&T can’t be contacted, even by Comcast, as every call made goes straight to voicemail. I guess they are extraordinarily busy at the moment.

The representative mentioned Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, and eluded to the fact that it effected other states as well. AT&T is franticly trying to establish "better safeguards" and wants to triple-check each before flipping the on switch for Europe.

This is a pretty big news event — certainly a larger incident than the router story in the article. I still have not been able to locate a news story that obviously ties in with this event yet. If you find one, please share the link below, in a comment. Thanks.
