git sucks‽

Saturday, February 21st, 2009

A few people on Planet GNOME are complaining about git, so I figured I should also post an example about git’s shortcomings when passing unexpected command line arguments.

$ git make me a sandwich
git: 'make' is not a git-command. See 'git --help'.

As a counter-point, let’s see how well bzr handles this…

$ bzr make me a sandwich
-bash: bzr: command not found

At this point it seems fairly obvious that version control systems (even distributed ones) are not good chefs — after all, that’s what sudo is for.

GUADEC has ended… and there aren’t enough pictures of jdub holding massive amounts of ice cream on Planet GNOME

Saturday, July 21st, 2007

Jeff Waugh, a bunch of people from Sun, and I had a great dinner at Bella Italia in Birmingham Thursday night during the excellent (and rainy) week of GUADEC 2007.

The dessert Jeff is holding in the pictures above looked like a ton of ice cream and, indeed, it turned out to be quite a massive amount.

I’ll have more photos from GUADEC uploaded soon, as well as many from my England travels (from the week prior).

Hack Week video

Tuesday, June 26th, 2007

Teams from around the world have been posting video on the Idea Pool website.

Here’s a video filmed and edited by Nat Friedman, and I’m featured at 1:46 into the video (at the end).

Yes, I was very, very tired making sure that the site was ready to launch and also traveling back to Europe. Shortly after arriving in Nuremberg, we were on Digg for several hours, so instead of taking a nap, I drank a lot of Red Bull and Afri-Cola so I could watch the website withstand “the Digg effect” (which used to be called “the Slashdot effect”, but we haven’t been on Slashdot yet. *hint*) and also take a lot of pictures.

Nat did a great job filming and editing the “from-the-trenches” Hack Week video; it’s quite funny.

Security work-around?

Sunday, May 13th, 2007

One thing I do miss about flights is bringing a big bottle of water with me. Today, I thought, “Well, what if I freeze the water and bring that through security?”

It’s not a “dangerous” liquid if it’s actually a solid, right?

Funny, I shrunk the Jimmac

Monday, April 23rd, 2007

Here’s a photo of myself and Jakub Steiner, in Germany, where we (after finding the old towne shrink ray) are demonstrating the difference between 128×128 and 22×22 icons.

(If I have too much more the beer and cheese while here, I might stretch like a SVG icon.)

iPhone, unboxed

Tuesday, January 16th, 2007

Someone put a new Apple iPhone (*wink* *wink*) through the fad of an unboxing process, taking typical unboxing style photos. Cute.
