Gallery of the Absurd

Tuesday, May 24th, 2005

Gallery of the Absurd (abbreviated as GOAT, which is absurdly is a transposition of letters in the acronym), direct from the Boston area. It’s funny, as I’ve seen some of the same things Erik Wegweiser points out.

Pushing “Paint” to the limits…

Wednesday, May 18th, 2005

It’s amazing — someone used Microsoft Paint to recreate a scene of Venice.

That has to be the most astounding use of MS Paint, ever. (Previous titleholder: Pokey the Penguin.)

Readjusting mirrors: removing the blind spots

Monday, May 2nd, 2005

I happened to be on, the website associated with the NPR radio show of the similar name (which, by the way, is based out of Cambridge) and found something quite interesting: A Great New Way to Set Your Car’s Side-View Mirrors

It turns out that you don’t need to see the back of your car after all — and this method almost eliminates a driver’s blind spots (it reduces them to be so small that if a car is in one, you’ll still see it, as the blind spot would only cover a tiny fraction of the car).

Redesigning prescriptions

Wednesday, April 20th, 2005

New York Metro has a feature about a graphic designer reworking the age-old medicine bottle. Not only is the new bottle much more clear; it might actually even save a large number of lives!

KSpyware: open source spyware

Wednesday, April 20th, 2005

Oh great; just what the world needs: more spyware. This time it’s open source, too. Despite the KSpyware name, however, it’s for Windows, not KDE.

It does use perl, but it relies heavily upon win32 heavily.

Also, for those who need it: The Free (and 99.9% foolproof) way of ridding your computer of spyware, adware, malware in general, and viruses. It’s a must read for any Windows user (and a very good link to pass around to your Windows-using friends and family…)

Sega Fantasy VI

Tuesday, April 19th, 2005

When game consoles are placed in the roles of Final Fantasy VI, all of the old gaming systems fight to save the world from the PSP. This long, wacky flash animation is filled with tons of jokes and is quite true to the original Final Fantasy game (well, as true as it could be with consoles playing the main characters).

Someone over in Japan with an extensive gaming background had way too much time making the flash animation — but it is funny.

I found the link on grand text auto (which I found from, for those wondering. (:
